Update Your Suicide Prevention Map: What’s Happening in 2025

The world is changing, and suicide trends are, too. It’s time to update our roadmap for suicide prevention with the tools and research of today. This workshop equips therapists with essential tools to understand and address suicidality’s evolving landscape. We’ll examine invitations, risk factors, and protective factors while providing practical strategies for diverse therapy settings, including outpatient, emergency departments, primary care, and telehealth services. Participants will be given practical tools for designing safety plans and recommendations for improving the care given after the initial plan.

The phrase “motivational interviewing” is as common as it is practical – yet how much of the spirit of MI do we understand and implement with fidelity? Participants will learn the
assumptions, principles, and spirit of Motivational Interviewing. Specific MI interventions will be reviewed including engaging change talk and decreasing sustain talk, OARS and
DARN CAT, and selecting MI consistent interventions.
