TAKE THE NEXT STEP ON THE CAREER LADDER! This part-time program transitions the volunteer firefighter to the Firefighter I program. Sessions cover ODPS/NFPA objectives,
Hazmat/WMD Operations, “Everyone Goes Home” 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives, live fire training (vehicle, dumpster, and structure fires), and much more.
Prerequisites:
- Physical and agility test, background check, and drug screen
- Emergency Vehicle Operations – $200 (if the student has, the fee will be waived)
- CPR/First Aid – $100 (if the student has, the fee will be waived)
Students are required to meet the NFPA 1850 standard for personal protective equipment (PPE) to participate in live fire training. EHOVE requires fire students to bring their own NFPA 1850-compliant PPE for live fire training use. If a student does not have an affiliation with a fire department that can provide compliant gear, information is available on how compliant gear may be rented.
Once the student has passed the State Certification, this would allow the student to apply for Firefighter II. Upon successful completion of the 128-hour course curriculum, including 100% attendance, the student will be eligible to sit for the ODPS State Certification Examination to be certified at the Firefighter I level.
