HERE’S THE TRAINING YOU NEED TO GET STARTED IN A TRULY EXCITING FIELD!  This part-time program starts from the ground up in the aspects of firefighting and rescue in urban and rural settings. Training includes ODPS/NFPA objectives for Firefighter I, Hazmat/WMD Operations, live fire training (vehicle, dumpster, and structure fires), “Everyone Goes Home” 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives, and more.  All ODPS certification exam dates are conducted in addition to class dates.

Prerequisites:

  • Physical and agility test, background check, and drug screen
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations – $200 (if the student has, the fee will be waived)
  • CPR/First Aid – $100 (if the student has, the fee will be waived)

Students are required to meet the NFPA 1850 standard for personal protective equipment (PPE) to participate in live fire training. EHOVE requires fire students to bring their own NFPA 1850-compliant PPE for live fire training use. If a student does not have an affiliation with a fire department that can provide compliant gear, information is available on how compliant gear may be rented.

Once the student has passed the State Certification, this would allow the student to apply for the Firefighter II program.  Upon successful completion of the 168-hour course curriculum, including 100% attendance, the student will be eligible to sit for the ODPS State Certification Examination to be certified at the Firefighter I level.

Agility testing held two weeks prior to the start date of the class. Students must have all application processes complete before taking the agility test.
Next program offering will be in Spring 2027.
