MOVE FORWARD IN YOUR TRAINING TO MOVE UP IN YOUR CAREER! This part-time program is designed to transition the student from the Firefighter I level to the advanced level of Firefighter II. Firefighter II knowledge, skills, and abilities learned during the course build upon the Firefighter I concepts. Comprised of incident report writing, flammable liquid live fires, fireground command, evidence preservation, pre-incident survey, and equipment maintenance, it is the second level of standards-based certification available to firefighters in Ohio. Prerequisites: NFPA Physical including Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), Ohio Firefighter I certification is required for admission to the course, Hazmat Operations Course (24 hrs), “Everyone Goes Home” Life Safety Initiatives, Successful completion of Physical Agility test (Firefighter Mile), Successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Operations course (16 hrs) $200.00, and Successful completion of CPR/FA course (8 hrs) $100.00. If a student has an EVO certification and CPR/FA card, the fee will be waived.
Students are required to meet the NFPA 1850 standard for personal protective equipment (PPE) to participate in live fire training. EHOVE requires fire students to bring their own NFPA 1850-compliant PPE for live fire training use. If a student does not have an affiliation with a fire department that can provide compliant gear, information is available on how compliant gear may be rented.
Upon successful completion of the program, course objectives and course skill tests, and with 100% attendance, graduates are eligible to sit for the ODPS State Certification Examination to be certified at the Firefighter II level, and may apply to receive a National Pro Board certification. After passing the State Certification, graduates can apply as a part-time/career firefighter.
