MOVE INTO A FIELD THAT CAN HAVE A BIG IMPACT! This full-time program provides the skills needed to help people of all ages gain skills needed for daily activities, such as redeveloping dressing and/or cooking, working to rehabilitate arm function/cognition after a stroke, or helping children with handwriting. Training includes 16 weeks of full-time fieldwork in two different settings, such as schools, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, or outpatient facilities.
The 24-month schedule includes a preadmission semester and a summer semester. Upon successful completion, students will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree through Lorain County Community College (LCCC) and be eligible to sit for the national certification exam offered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). Upon successful completion of the exam, students can apply for state licensure.
Admission to the program is competitive, with 25 students admitted each fall. Students must be accepted as LCCC students and will sign up for LCCC classes. More information, including admission requirements, can be found on EHOVE’s program page or LCCC’s program page. Contact Teri LaGuardia, OTA Program Director at tlaguardia@EHOVE.net to start.
